EU CBRN CoE Project 87 “Preparedness and Response for Mass Gatherings and other Health Threats in Central Asia” (PRECA) held its annual Steering Committee Meeting, in Brussels on June 16, 2023. This meeting took place in conjunction with the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CBRN CoE) summer National Focal Points Conference, which was held from June 13 to June 15, 2023. The meeting, chaired by the European Union Foreign Policy Instrument (EU FPI), brought together key stakeholders, including the CBRN CoE Central Asia Regional Secretariat, the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), and the National Focal Points (NFPs) of the partner countries.

The primary objectives of the meeting were to provide an overview of progress and seek approval for future plans. Additionally, in the margins of the Steering Committee Meeting, participants discussed the upcoming regional table-top exercise scheduled for May 2024.

During the latter part of the day bilateral meetings were facilitated between the Project Team and the NFP, offering an opportunity for more focused discussions on specific national aspects of the project in each country.

The PRECA Steering Committee is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the project and strengthening international cooperation in the field of Mass Gatherings’ public health security. This annual meeting of experts and stakeholders will contribute significantly to advancing project goals and enhancing collaborative efforts in addressing CBRN-related challenges at Mass gatherings in the Central Asia region.
