In collaboration with the Committee of Veterinary and Livestock Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the European Union's EU CBRN CoE Project 87, an international training on the topic of "Ensuring food safety at public events" was held at the Samarkand State University of Veterinary Medicine, Livestock, and Biotechnologies on March 13-14, 2023. The training was conducted by both international experts and national trainers.
Participants of the training included specialists from the Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Jizzakh, and Bukhara regional centers of the Republican State Center for the Diagnosis of Animal Diseases and Food Products Safety, as well as specialists from veterinary-sanitary expertise laboratories operating in farmers' markets, the regional committee of the Sanitary-epidemiological peace and public health under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, professors and teachers from Samarkand State Medical University and Samarkand State University of Veterinary Medicine, Livestock, and Biotechnologies, and entrepreneurs engaged in the production and sale of food products.
More than 100 people attended the training in-person, while specialists from other regions participated online through the ZOOM platform. The training was facilitated by international experts such as Ian Leach, the coordinator of the GIZ international project of the German Federation in Uzbekistan, Jackie Gibney, an expert on food safety of the EU CBRN CoE Project 87, and a specialist from ISTC.
The primary goal of the training was to increase the knowledge and skills of participants in following emergency safety rules in the provision of food products at mass events organized in the country. The training was deemed successful and additional training is planned to take place in Tashkent on May 11-12.
